Adoption

We are very pleased that you would like to adopt a dog from animal welfare into your family!

How does an adoption work?

What do you need to know and what questions should you ask yourself?

before you take in a homeless animal from Germany or abroad?

  • This animal probably comes from the worst possible background and will put all of its love and trust in you.
  • At the same time, we also have a few questions for you because we naturally want to know how our protégé will live one day and whether you and he are a good match.
  • For us, our responsibility for our protégés does not end with adoption. We will not leave you alone with any problems that may arise.
  • We expect from you the sense of responsibility to care for a living being that depends on you so that it can live a happy life, and the willingness to address and try to solve problems and difficulties.

Please keep in mind!!

We describe the animals to you to the best of our knowledge and belief. Before a dog came to us, it may have lived on the street, it may have been abandoned, in a shed or perhaps

kept on a balcony or he was largely left to his own devices for a long time. Only a few dogs have truly lived as part of a family before.

Many were neglected, poorly cared for, perhaps even beaten or otherwise mistreated. Animals generally adapt quickly to a new environment, but you still need to give your new family member the time they need to settle into their new life, and you also need to take enough time to help your animal without to overwhelm it.

dog and cat

If you already have a dog or cat in the family and now want to adopt another animal, you should also test at home how your dog reacts to cats or how your cat reacts to a visit from a friendly dog.

What you should ask yourself:

Acquiring an animal means taking responsibility for a living being's life,

to take charge of your health and happiness - for a lifetime. Depending on the breed, a dog can easily live to be 15 or more years old, and a cat can even live to be 20 years old.

The adoption of an animal should therefore be carefully considered and never based on a spontaneous feeling. Even pity for a poor furry friend should never be the sole, decisive reason for adoption - no matter how well-intentioned it may be. Don't make yourself (and the animal) unhappy by impulsively making a decision that you may later regret and then have to give up the animal with a heavy heart. Every separation from its family and every new beginning is associated with great stress and pain for an animal.
